Urban art on a laneway

The City of Port Phillip supports urban art in major projects. One of my favourite pieces is the screening fence to the lane at 17 Robe St, St Kilda. Referring to its former use as the Alliance Francaise, the screen along the laneway tells tales from La Fontaine. Each segment of the screen is delightful. Fish, birds and and kangaroo are especially gracefully represented. Martin Hodge is the artist who created this very lovely work which has made a difficult lane charming as well as providing privacy for the residents within.

Thought of the day

Balaclava Station did not get funding in the state budget for an upgrade, but what it has got is the person who posts a 'thought of the day' at the station each day. Today's was not the 'thought' that most appealed to me, but I love that it happens at all.
